“They will follow the LORD; He will roar like a lion. When He roars, His children will come trembling from the west. They will come trembling like birds from Egypt, like doves from Assyria. ‘I will settle them in their own homes’, declares the LORD.”
Hosea 11: 10,11
The primary focus of the Ebenezer Emergency Fund, as it was called at the time of its inception in 1991, was aliyah “from the land of the north”, considered to be the former Soviet Union. Many intrepid and courageous volunteers were part of the miraculous ingathering of the Jewish people from these vast territories, often making the last leg of their journey from the port of Odessa, Ukraine. The name of our ministry eventually changed to Ebenezer-Operation Exodus, and now is often just referred to as Operation Exodus.
But in passages like Jeremiah 16: 14,15 & 23: 7-8, which are almost identical, it says men will speak of the Lord’s ingathering of Israel “from the north, and out of all the countries where He had banished them.” Moses prophesied in Deuteronomy 30:4, “Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you and bring you back.” Moses emphasized this astonishing work of ingathering and homecoming for Israel will be accomplished by the Lord Himself & motivated by His compassion for His people.
Consider the miraculous homecoming of the Bnei Menashe people, going up (aliyah) to Zion from the remote region of northeast India. As the Lord says regarding the dry bones of Ezekiel 37, when God restores them they will know in that day that “I the Lord have spoken, & I have done it declares the Lord.”
And what of the return of the Jewish people scattered throughout the countries of North and South America? Just refer to the passage above from Hosea 11!
